This monograph presents a personal retrospect of the author on cartographic-semiotic topics in a both global and European context with particular consideration of cartosemiotics at the Dresden University of Technology. Dedicated to former ICA vice-president Tositomo Kanakubo (Japan) and to the Japan Cartographers Association, the text is addressing cartosemioticians, cartographers, geographers and other scientists interested in cartographic semiotics and neighboring disciplines.
